Leaving money to charity in your will is a great way to do good after your death. The Government encourage such gifts by reducing any Inheritance Tax payable in respect of the estate. Any gifts to charity reduce the amount of the estate upon which the Tax is charged and, if you leave 10% or more of your estate to charity, Tax is then charged at the rate of 35% in place of 40%. Perhaps more important is that you are supporting a charity, whose work you care about.

You can leave a fixed amount or a proportion of your estate.  Wills are best prepared by Solicitors, but the following clauses may be useful.

“I give the sum of  £X  pounds to Enfield Asian Welfare Association Ltd (registered Charity number 1109149) to be used for the general purposes of their work”

OR

“I give {Specify a proportion (e.g. one half OR ten percent Or similar) of the residue of my estate to Enfield Asian Welfare Association Ltd (registered Charity number 1109149) to be used for the general purposes of their work”
